Choice of the location

The hotel offered us the possibility to have the reception on the beach, in an indoor air-conditioned room or in a section of the hotel by the pool overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

Despite the heat and humidity, we wanted to have our reception outside. We did not come to Jamaica to be locked in a reception hall that looks like the ones back home!

We did not want to have our reception on the beach for several reasons. Among others the wind and the sand which could end up on our food & the heels that are not welcomed…

So we chose the outdoor section by the pool overlooking the sea πŸ€—!

It was possible to rent an outdoor air conditioner, but after reading other brides reviews, it wasn’t worth it.

I won’t lie, it was hot 🌑! But we were so distracted by the celebration that it wasn’t a problem! Plus, guests could go back to their rooms to change or cool off since it wasn’t that far from the reception location!

The decoration

There was no decoration included in our package for the reception. The hotel offered the basic essentials: tables, chairs and white tablecloths that’s about it…

You will have the choice to use the services of hotel vendors or external vendors for : decoration 🎈, music 🎡, wedding cake 🍰, lightingπŸ’‘β€¦

No matter which you choose, make sure you’ve done your research & read reviews on the vendors.

In my opinion when you choose the hotel’s vendors you have a “guarantee” of service, because the hotel has endorsed them.

Save money πŸ’Έ

You can save money: with a simple & chic decor, by making πŸ‘©πŸ½πŸŽ¨ some items yourself or by buying items in your country and carrying them πŸ’Ό with you!

Plan of the reception roomπŸ“

In our case, there were several options for the tables configuration for the reception. So we decided to make a plan of how we would like the table layout for the guests, the bride & groom, the cake, the welcome & signature table and the DJ location.

Our plan

We shared the plan with our coordinator who made sure to place everything as desired. You don’t have to do this, but if you have an idea in mind it’s best to share it!

Choice of Menu 🍽: buffet or table service?

You will have the choice between a buffet or table service. We have chosen the table service because :

  • the buffet option took away the classic wedding feel
  • we didn’t want our guests waiting in line to eat
  • there were buffets available in the hotel during our stay

We had to choose the appetizer, the two main course choices and the dessert. We also had to provide a list of our guests’s allergies and dietary restrictions.

You can create paper menus to place on the tables. We preferred not to waste paper and we placed the menu on our wedding website.

Lantern ceremony 🀩

We decided to have a lantern ceremony at the end of the reception. Everyone was invited to go to a reserved spot on the beach to make a wish and send their lantern into the sky!

The lanterns! 😊

You can buy your lanterns at destination. We preferred to order them online (to choose a good product) & carry them with us. Make sure you have lighters or matches πŸ”₯! We didn’t have enough for the group we were and it took a little while πŸ˜… Despite that we had a lot of fun and it was a great way to end the night ❀!
